Come make a splash as the BEAST Series takes to the water in race #3! Variety is the name of the game in this course, which will start with a canoe orienteering stage, balanced by a chase started biking and trekking/orienteering stage. There will be a navigation element throughout--but not too hard, and as usual, the course will be designed to be friendly to newbies and keep the old pros on their toes.

As an added twist to this edition, the race will be in two stages with a break in between. This is to allow time to return the canoe without being in a frenzy ...and to inject the fun of a chasing start: Your start time for the second stage will be 7:30 p.m. plus whatever your time is for stage 1, the canoe orienteering. For example, if you take 55 minutes to complete the canoe orienteering course, you will start stage 2 at 7:30 p.m. + 0:55 = 8:25 p.m. You may start the canoe orienteering course as early as 5:45 p.m. or as late as 7:00 p.m., and teams' start times will be separated from one another rather than mass or group starting.

The stage 2 start location is nearly a mile from the Waterfront Activities Center (WAC). You are encouraged to leave your car parked near the WAC and ride your bike to the stage 2 start with your gear some time before your chase start time. If this isn't making sense, feel free to ask questions. If you're confused, we'll do our best to make the logistics easy for you by telling you where and when to go on race day.

Set by a lake and between forested slopes, the course will feature mountain biking and orienteering...and a surprise or two, of course! The course will command the attention of veteran racers and the competition will be stiff, but in keeping with the BEAST Series philosophy, it will also be within the capabilities of newcomers to finish.

The race season is just about over, so you might as well pack your gear away and hibernate until Spring, right? No way! Celebrate the coming of the cool, damp weather at the Fall BEAST race. By popular demand, this will be the longest race course yet, featuring a truly epic mountain bike odyssey (by our Fun Size standards), and some excellent trekking and orienteering. In keeping with other BEAST races, this one will be friendly to newcomers, provided they are in shape for the course distance and dressed for the weather.
